Fuel Surcharge (DOT) Calculation
30 March 2026 /The fuel surcharge (DOT) is periodically adjusted based on current diesel prices according to CBS StatLine. This method uses a fixed benchmark price, a fuel share of 30%, and a delay of approximately 2 weeks.
Due to the ongoing volatility in fuel prices, we are adjusting our methodology regarding the fuel surcharge (DOT).
To better follow market developments, the fuel surcharge will henceforth be determined periodically based on current diesel prices.
How is the fuel surcharge calculated?
The calculation is based on three components:
- A benchmark (reference) diesel price
- The current average diesel price
- The fuel share within total costs (average 30%)
Benchmark price
The benchmark price is set at €1.668 per liter.
This represents the average diesel price of week 52 in 2025, as published by CBS (StatLine).
This week was chosen as a reference point because it reflects the moment on which current rates and quotations are based. The benchmark therefore serves as the basis against which price developments are measured.
In principle, the benchmark price is used as a fixed reference, but it may be revised if market conditions give reason to do so.
Example calculation
The example below illustrates how the fuel surcharge is determined.
- Benchmark price: €1.668 / L
- Current price (example): €2.368 / L
Price increase:
(2.368 – 1.668) / 1.668 ≈ 42%
Fuel surcharge:
42% × 30% ≈ 12.6%
Delay in calculation
Due to the availability of market data, a delay of approximately 2 weeks is applied.
This means for example:
- Week 14 is based on prices from week 12
- Week 15 is based on prices from week 13
- And so on

Final note
We understand that fluctuations in fuel prices impact costs. With this methodology, we aim to ensure a transparent and market-based surcharge.
